Dr. Rod Hicks, CGN Professor and Associate Dean, is co-leading the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Faculty Peer Review Academy.  The AORN Peer Review Academy is a 1-year commitment whereby up to 40 individuals serve as manuscript reviewers for AORN Journal.

Dr. Hicks is an editorial board member for AORN Journal and a frequent contributing author.  Dr. Hicks previously served 2 terms as Chair of the AORN Nursing Research Committee.  Joining Dr. HIcks is Dr. Christopher Stucky, Lt. Colonel, US Army Nurse Corps and Consultant to the US Surgeon General.

Attendees were selected for their background in perioperative practice. Attendees review the journal’s scope and then learn the intricate pieces of critically reviewing an article and writing the recommendation. Throughout the year-long project, Dr. Hicks and Dr. Stucky will meet with the attendees and provide feedback and additional knowledge for effective peer reviewing.

AORN Journal publishes more than 200 feature articles that demonstrate excellence for all phases of perioperative nursing care.  AORN was founded in 1949 as a national community for operating room nurses who sought to share best practices for patients undergoing surgery.  Currently, AORN supports patient and staff safety through evidence-based practice recommendations.
