Ten DVM 2024 students took advantage of the annual Laparoscopy Course this month, a comprehensive four-day course for fourth-year veterinary students enrolled in the WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine.
Coordinated by Dr. Ohad Levi, DVM, the class has become something of a capstone for many WesternU CVM students. The class offered students a theoretical foundation, where participants gained essential knowledge of laparoscopic principles and techniques.
The course began with bench-top model exercises and transitioned to hands-on practice on live patients over the four-day period, guided by WesternU’s experienced instructors. Upon completing the course, participants were equipped to start and effectively develop a safe and successful laparoscopic practice in veterinary medicine.
At the end of the course, each student received a certificate for the small animal laparoscopy course. In keeping with WesternU’s Reverence for Life mission, all animals participating in the course were returned to their owners and took part only in medically necessary procedures.
Drs Maria Fahie, DVM, DACVS; Lyon Lee, DVM, PhD, DACVAA, David Clark, DVM DABVP, and Young Joo Kim, DVM, as well as RVTs Ms. Annette Chavarria-Marron, Ms. Leslie Tortez, and Ms. Martinez assisted Dr. Levi with the course.
