P1. What are you working on now that excites you the most?

As a Nurse Scientist and academic partner at PIH, I am guiding the Palliative Care Multi-disciplinary team (chaplain, physicians, nurse practitioners, and social workers) in writing a research proposal. We are currently conducting literature reviews and refining the research questions.  I am also nudging and encouraging them to complete their CITI certifications!

 2. What book has had the greatest impact on your life?

Nursing theorists are living legends and ‘rock stars’ within the nursing profession and discipline. At a conference I recently attended, I especially enjoyed a presentation by Jean Watson about caring science.  Dr. Watson’s book, Nursing: The Philosophy and Science of Caring transcends time even as practice parameters expand and change.  The ability to truly care is highly relevant in all relationships throughout life’s journey.

3. What is your most prized possession?

Keepsakes from my paternal grandmother that warm my heart: Earrings made from her wedding ring, and an angel figurine made in occupied Japan.

4. What is something that surprises people about you?

People seem surprised that my family’s immigration history from eastern Europe and Scandinavia is fairly recent.  My mother speaks English as a second language. She is a retired Registered Nurse, educated in the United States. I understand the challenges of linguistic transitions and the complexity of the English language for those who are new to it.

5. What piece of advice would you give to five year old you?

To trust your instincts and follow your dreams!
