The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) empowers and supports nurses who care for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy. Through an annual conference, nurses and students learn more about serving patients when they need care, no matter who or where they are. Such was the driving force behind a recent CGN student and her team’s work.
CGN is pleased to recognize the work of Haley Dulken, MSN-E ’23, for her poster presentation at the June 2023 AWHONN meeting in New Orleans. “Being accepted to present at AWHONN is highly competitive,” said Gwendelyn Orozco, PhD, RNC-OB, Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the MSN-E program. “For this conference, there were 127 accepted posters with only one authored by a student, our own Haley Dulken. Her poster was the only presentation to address the obstetric needs of transgender individuals.”
“I am so proud of Haley’s poster. Her presentation was cutting edge. Textbooks are often two to five years behind in practice. A poster presentation allows for current practice topics to be shared well-ahead of being published in books,” said CGN Dean Mary Lopez, PhD, MSN, RN. “Our MSN-E obstetric curriculum remains robust. In many instances, our students are gathering and presenting new information to our clinical partners.”
