WesternU College of Dental Medicine’s (CDM) Associate Professor and an Oral Medicine Specialist, Dr. Sahar Mirfarsi, in collaboration with her colleagues Dr. Airani Sathananthan from the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COMP) and Dr. Dalia Seleem from CDM, published 5 articles as part of a book dedicated to “Clinical Decisions in Medically Complex Dental Patients, Part II.”

Dr. Mirfarsi’s vision was to highlight the importance of interprofessional collaboration between medical and dental healthcare providers. She believes that positively impacting patients’ lives starts with educating dental and medical healthcare providers, creating interprofessional learning opportunities, and becoming ambassadors of collaborative interprofessional healthcare. She emphasizes the critical role of oral healthcare providers in disease detection, management, and interprofessional collaborations in clinical practices, working towards creating a healthcare system where oral health is valued and integrated as part of overall health.

“Working with Dr. Sathananthan and Dr. Seleem on this project has been a pleasure. I couldn’t have asked for better co-authors to collaborate with and share our knowledge and expertise to manage medically complex patients in clinical practices safely,” said Dr. Mirfarsi.
